The first electric pole on China-Lao Railway (Boten-Vientiane section) was erected in Vientiane province, Laos, today on March 15. It signifies that the electrical engineering project of this railway has officially started off.

Undertaken by the Wuhan Railway Electrification Bureau, this project involves a range of constructions in relation to railway communication, signaling and power supply.

The bureau said they will take special measures to prevent its workers from being infected with the ongoing novel coronavirus.

The China-Lao Railway (Boten-Vientiane section), stretching a length of 414 kilometers in all, is a strategic project in both the Belt and Road Initiative of China and Laos’ plan to transform itself from a landlocked country to a land-linked one.

The railway is estimated to be opened to traffic in December 2021.
