ITINERARY
DAY 1
We pick you up at 8 AM in Chiang Mai and drive for just under an hour to Baan Kart market in Mae Wang. At the market, you can buy any items you’ll need for the tour. From the market, we drive to trekking start point at Mae Sa Pok village from where we trek mostly uphill amid lush jungle. We pass many hidden waterfall along the way where we can stop for a short break should you need one. We also make a longer break for lunch in the jungle. Without the lunch break, this trek takes three to four hours, depending on your pace and the number of stops along the way. When we reach the viewpoint at the top of the trail, we rest for a while and enjoy the views over the mountainous landscape.

In the afternoon, we trek mostly downhill until we reach Khun Puay Karen tribe village. For this part of the trek, we have many different trail options and can do a short trek of under two hours or a longer trek of over three hours. Let your local guide know your wishes and he will select the most suitable trail for you.

In the Karen village, your guide introduces you to your host family and prepares your dinner. Karen people find it a bit unusual to share dinner with their guests and will usually make sure that their guests have everything they need and serve dinner and will only eat after the guests have already finished their meal. If you would like to eat with the family, you can ask them to join you. After dinner, you spend the night in their guest house.

Meals included: Lunch and dinner
Accommodation: Karen village home stay

DAY 2
After breakfast, your guide can show you around the village and tell you how Karen communities live and what their customs are. He is local and happy to share his knowledge with you so feel free to ask him anything you’d like. Today, you first hike in the farmland and rice fields surrounding the village. This is a great opportunity to learn about local farming practices from your guide. If you’re on the tour during rice planting or harvesting season, you can even join the workers in the fields and gain hands-on experience about rice farming.

Afterwards, you continue to trek in the jungle. For today’s trek, we have plenty of options. Most of the trails are mixed, a bit uphill and a bit downhill. If you’re up for a more challenging trek, we can hike for about six hours today but if you’d like to take it easy, we can also choose shorter trails and trek for about three hours. If you choose a long trek, we will stop along the way and eat lunch in the jungle, however, if you prefer a shorter trek, we can take our time and cook lunch in bamboo stems – jungle style. See the tour options on the right and let us know your wishes when you make a booking.
