2 Days Chiang Mai Lahu Ethnic Village Hiking Tour with Chiang Mae Taeng River Rafting

If you only have a couple of days to explore northern Thailand, we highly recommend this trip as you’ll have a chance to experience all the highlights of northern Thai countryside, such as white water rafting and bamboo rafting down Mae Taeng river, trekking in the jungle and learning about local culture while staying at a traditional Lahu tribe village.

ITINERARY
DAY 1
We pick you up at your accommodation or other convenient location in Chiang Mai at 8 AM. We first drive for around 45 minutes to a local market where we stock up on supplies for the entire trip. Then we drive straight to Chiang Dao and visit newly discovered caves. We explore the caves for a bit under an hour. The caves are very beautiful but not for the claustrophobic!

Then it’s time for a well-deserved lunch at a local restaurant before we drive to Mae Taeng area and trek for two to three hours (depending on your pace and a number of stops we make) in the forest to a local Lahu tribe village.

In the village, your guide cooks a northern Thai feast and you can learn some Lahu and northern Thai recipes if you join your guide while he cooks your dinner. You spend a night as a guest in the Lahu village.

Meals included: Lunch and dinner
Accommodation: Lahu village home stay

DAY 2
We wake up early in the morning have breakfast and explore the village, your guide teaches you about traditional lifestyles of this hill tribe community.

Afterwards, we walk to the river and construct our very own bamboo raft, completely handmade of natural materials. We then take the raft to the river and board it. We raft down the river for about two hours and enjoy the wonderful scenery.

After disembarking, we first have a lunch break and afterwards it’s time for some excitement – white water rafting/canoeing down the river rapids! You get all safety equipment and you guide briefs you on safety during white water rafting/canoeing. Then it’s time for the fun to begin!

We can go white water rafting during the rainy season or when the water level is high. When the water level is low (mostly during the hot season and in part during the cold season), we will go canoeing.
We drive back to Chiang Mai in the afternoon.
