A great adventure tour that combines a good walk in lush countryside with a visit to a non-commercial elephant camp run by local villagers, bamboo rafting down the winding river Mae Taeng and an overnight stop at a local Karen village. There’s even a chance to visit local hot springs!
TRIP SUMMARY:

Day 1 – Be ready to start your adventure tour at 8 AM. Your guide picks you up in Chiang Mai, and you make a short stop at a local market on the way to Mae Taeng river. Here we stock up our supplies and you can get a raincoat, toilet rolls, torch and some gifts for kids in the village.
We keep driving to a waterfall where we get fresh and fun! After that we have lunch on the way. Our next stop is the hot springs, and from there, we start a two to three hour trek to a Karen village or to local elephant camp where we spend the night and get to know the local life and traditions.
Day 2 – Early breakfast, and then we shower and feed the elephants and walk them for an hour until we reach a Lahu village. At the village, you might have a chance to give your elephants an afternoon bath as well (depends on how the elephants feel).
Elephant interaction is optional on all our tours. Those who prefer not to visit the elephant camp spend the night in a Karen village, and those who opt for elephant interaction, spend the night near the elephant camp.
We trek to Lahu village in upper Mae Taeng area, an area where you won’t see many other tourists. This village is a starting point for our bamboo rafting part of the trip. We raft on handmade bamboo rafts down the river for about three hours and enjoy the lush countryside on the river banks.
We disembark and grab lunch, and get ready for the most adventurous part of our tour. I’s time for white water rafting down the Mae Taeng river rapids!
White water rafting is not always possible. During the hot season (March to May) or during drought water level is not suitable for this activity, and we replace it with canoeing.
This is the end of your adventure tour, we leave Mae Taeng and drive back to Chiang Mai in the afternoon.
