3 Days Best of Northern Thailand Adventure Tour with Lanna

Thai rural culture while exploring the jungle, countryside and learning about hill tribe communities.

Our three day trip combines the best of Northern Thailand; cycling, trekking in the jungle, bamboo rafting and Karen village home stay. But unlike many tours, we go deeper and give you a unique insight into traditional Thai culture. We trek to a working Karen tribe village where you teach in the local school, as well as learn about Lanna agriculture – hands on experience in the fields!

ITINERARY
DAY 1
We pick you up at 8 AM from your accommodation in Chiang Mai and head to the heart of Mae Wang countryside where we collect our bicycles at a cycling start point. We cycle through villages and past fruit farms, rice paddies, crops and waterways. Depending on the season you may be able to stop and help with planting or harvesting rice too. We make two stops on the way: at a local market and at a Buddhist temple. After two hours we stop at a local restaurant for a well-earned lunch.
After lunch, we trek to a scenic waterfall and a traditional Karen village through the Thai jungle. Don’t forget to bring swimming gear! In the Karen village we show you how to prepare traditional Thai food. We use fresh ingredients and cook on an open fire – just like hill tribe communities. You learn to cook two or three traditional northern Thai dishes each evening.

After dinner we spend the night as guests of the local villagers.

Meals included: Lunch and dinner
Accommodation: Karen village home stay
DAY 2
After breakfast in the village, you can learn from your local guide about the daily life in this community. If the village school is open, we can visit the children and teach them some English through games. Then we hike through rice paddies and learn how Thai agriculture has been done for centuries. Expect hands on experience! Depending on the season you can learn how to prepare the fields, plant or harvest crops.
From the village we set off on a trek in the jungle towards a local waterfall near Spicy Villa Eco-Lodges. We have a jungle style lunch on the way and learn how local hill tribe people use bamboo instead of pots and pans.

In the afternoon, after you get settled in your bamboo bungalow at Spicy Villa, you have a second Thai cooking class.

Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Accommodation: Private bungalow at Spicy Villa Eco-Lodges
DAY 3
Today you can rest after breakfast or trek in the area with your local guide. Let your guide know a day before how you would like to spend your morning.
After lunch we enjoy a drift down the river on a handmade bamboo raft before heading back to the city.

At the end of your three days you have experienced the most important parts of Northern Thai culture – traditional cooking and farming and the hill tribe lifestyle. It will make your visit to Thailand an unforgettable one.

Optional activity on the second day is a visit to elephant camp where you can feed and bathe the elephants. Please let us know if you would like to have this activity in your itinerary.

Meals included: Breakfast and lunch
