3 Days Northern Vietnam Hiking Tour to Cao Bang and Ba Be Lake

Cultural Adventure to Cao Bang & Ba Be Lake – 3 Days tour starts and finishes in Hanoi visiting waterfalls, caves, local villages, and homestays run by a Nung and Tay family. You’ll embark on a long drive to Cao Bang via Lang Son and Quang Uyen with stops on the way to take pictures and visit local villages. Your first stay is with a Nung family; the Nung people are one of the 54 ethnic groups and are closely related to the Tay Ethnic Group who also live in the same region. Nung people make a living primarily through farming and handmade products, which they sell among their people as well as to the rest of Vietnam.

Day 1: Hanoi to Lang Son to Quang Uyen ( L , D )

You will start your 3-day Vietnam tour by driving in the direction of the Chinese border for about three hours, before stopping at Chi Lang Pass, a 20-kilometer-long gorge created from a narrow valley between two mountains. Here, you will have an hour to explore the area around the Quy Mon Quan Gate. After lunch at a local restaurant, you’ll continue to Cao Bang, stopping at Mother’s Temple and Dong Khe – an important historical site. At Quang Uyen, stay in a homestay with a local Nung family.

Day 2: Cao Bang to Ban Gioc Waterfalls, Nguom Ngao Cave, and Ba Be Lake ( B, L , D  )

After breakfast, you’ll depart for Trung Khanh which lies right on the border with China. You’ll visit the local village of Phuc Sen, a mountainous village famous for its traditional blacksmithing. You’ll then visit Ban Gioc Waterfalls, which presents an excellent opportunity for some fantastic photography, before a visit to the impressive Nguom Ngao Cave. At Ba Be Lake, you’ll stay overnight in a traditional homestay with a local Tay family.

Day 3: Boating on Ba Be Lake and Back to Hanoi ( B, L )

This is the last day of your 3-day Vietnam tour. Board a boat and set off for Ba Be Lake. You can relax, enjoy the views or go for a swim in the cool waters to refresh yourself. The boat will then continue along the Nang River, giving you a chance to explore the caves of Puong Grotto. Now that you’ve reached the end of your tour, you’ll be driven roughly 230 kilometers back to Hanoi, with a stop at a tea plantation nestled among rolling hills.
