Day 1: Bangkok

The group will meet for the first time in the hotel lobby around 6 p.m.

Day 2: Bangkok

Visit the must-see places in Bangkok: the Grand Palace and the reclining Buddha temple. We will take a canal boat, a local bus, a ferry and the sky train to these sights in the morning. In the afternoon you are free to check out the local market before we catch the overnight train to Chiang Mai (approximately 14 hours to Chiang Mai).

Day 3: Chiang Mai

When we arrive we will transfer to the hotel where there will be time to shower and relax. We will visit Doi Suthep temple (we climb 306 steps up to the temple!), which is the must-see place and the most famous temple in the city. It’s also a great place to look out over the city. In the evening we will cycle around the old city.

Day 4: Trekking

We will get dropped off at a cycling point outside the city and cycle through traditional
villages, rice paddy fields and local farms. Halfway through our cycle we will stop at the local market for trekking supplies and here you can buy something for the kids in the villages, for example stationary. We will stop for lunch and then trek for about 3 hours to the Karen village where we will stay the night. On the way we will stop at a waterfall. In the evening we can enjoy local tea with the villagers.

Day 5: Trekking

We might get woken up early in the morning because of the roosters and pigs! We will have a good breakfast with our generous host and wander around the village to observe the day-to-day life of the Karen people. Then it’s time to say goodbye to our host and trek about 3 hours to our lunch stop in the jungle. Here you can learn how to cook using traditional bamboo cooking methods. We will continue our trek in the afternoon for another 3 hours and will stop and relax by a waterfall. In the evening we will stay at my bamboo bungalows and organic farm where we will teach you how to cook a dish of your choice. That night we will relax around the camp fire together.

Day 6: Elephant riding and bamboo rafting

We will get up early in the morning to collect our elephants from the bush. We will train you in how to communicate with and get on and off the ellies so you can ride them bareback, sitting on the neck. You don’t even have to share your elephant! We will ride bareback down to the river where we will bathe with them and play in the water with them! Back at the bungalows we will have breakfast and a rest. In the afternoon we will do bamboo rafting before returning to the city and exploring the night market. We can also head out to a local bar.

Day 7: Chiang Mai

Today we can have a well-deserved lie in! Around mid morning we will head to a local market for cooking ingredients, then to the local cookery school. Here we will learn how to cook lovely Thai/Northern Thai food and dessert. You will have some free time in the afternoon, during which you can check out the local silk and silver industry, the local market and the temples in the city.
