5 Days Mekong Delta Cycling To Tra Vinh – Can Tho -Long Xuyen – Chau Doc

The River of Nine Dragons, as locals know the area, is where the Mekong splinters into nine separate branches, crisscrossing low landscapes before reaching the sea. Life moves much more slowly here and is often surrounded by water. You’ll find even homes, farms, and markets take on an aquatic adaptation in the Mekong Delta
TOUR ITINERARY

Day 1: HCM – Tra Vinh (35 – 70 km)
8:00 AM pick up from your hotel in Ho Chi Minh City to Tan An town is just an hour from Ho Chi Minh by bus. Are you are met and picked up at hotels, an hour driving you to this town for a lovely morning ride. We ride on pathways of rice paddies, corn fields, and dragon fruit. Many break stop for fruit, and water. Lunch will be served at a restaurant in My Tho city. The afternoon ride is very easy. Your guide will choose the shady concrete pathways through water palm and local markets. You will have a regular stop at the roadside for short breaks for water, snacks, fruits, and relaxation in hammocks. Our day ends in the countryside of Tra Vinh after a ferry crossing.

Day 2: Tra Vinh – Can Tho (B/L/D) (25 – 80 km)
The scenery on the pathway to Can Tho is wonderful. Depending on group cycling ability, a tailored special route is planned for a long day passing numerous villages of Khmer, colorful Khmer temples, and rice fields on the horizon. We break for lunch in a small town. Then leisurely afternoon bicycle ride on a small track along the riverside through many islands and passing local fruit orchards. A big chance is to break 30 minutes on small ferry boating through some islands before we end up our today’s ride at Can Tho bridge

Day 3: Can Tho – Long Xuyen (B/L/D) (25 – 80 km)
After a very early breakfast at the hotel, we will take a boat trip to the famous Cai Rang floating market before cycling on the narrow country roads crossing small natural rivers, riding alongside some rivers, and authentic villages. We stop for a coffee break at Phong Dien. Then we will ride on tiny concrete paths alongside many small/big rivers to Tho Lai. By cycling, you can see rivers used as a means of travel or transport in the area such as wooden cargo boats, water taxis, grocery boats, and rowing boats moving busily up and down.

Your lunch is reserved at local as planned. Then we take dirt tracks, and trails through agricultural irrigation canals to the rural areas of Long Xuyen city. The afternoon ride enables you to see farmers raising ducks on both farming lands and canals. Besides these activities, can see some frog and eel farms at the home of locals. We get on the van for a short transfer to Long Xuyen city.

Day 4: Long Xuyen – Chau Doc (B/L/D) (30 – 90 km)
The fourth day’s ride is more challenging than the past 3 days. The type of local’s living we see today is also more characteristic of the places you have been and seen. In the morning ride, you will cycle on a quiet country road through local factories making bricks, and local markets and meet locals who rarely see westerners at their homes. After lunch, to avoid getting hot at noontime, we will have a transfer to Ba Chuc killing field for a short visit. Then we continue cycling on the natural hilly back roads through small villages, and picturesque pagodas and stop at Tra Su Natural Reserve. A boat trip will take you through the forest with trekking around the area. After the boat ride, we continue to ride on the path to Sam Mountain where we get on the A/C van for a short transfer to Chau Doc. If time permits, the ride will continue along the border to Chau Doc.

Day 5: Chau Doc – HCM (B/L/) (30 km)
Chau Doc border town is small but it’s the gateway to Cambodia either through waterways or overland. The most interesting thing that travelers shouldn’t be missed is floating villages and Cham village. After your breakfast, we will check out for an hour-and-a-half boat ride to explore the daily life of people living in a floating village. You will be stopped at fish farming, floating houses of locals, and walking around Cham village. Depending on time, your guide will figure out the following options

Option 1: You will have a transfer back to HCM. Lunch will be arranged on the way.
Option 2: Take a ferry crossing the lower river branch and cycling 25 km on a dirt track to the Nang Gu ferry. Then we have lunch before driving back to HCM.
